American Impressionist Painter, 1852-1919 .American painter. He studied with his father Robert Walter Weir, a landscape painter of the Hudson River school, at the National Academy; and with Görôme in Paris. He was one of the earliest American impressionist painters. Subtle gradations of light and tone characterize his work. He was a founder of the Society of American Artists (1877), a member of the National Academy (1886), and its president (1915 C17). When the Ten American Artists formed a separate group (1898), he joined them. Krzysztof Lubieniecki
(1659-1729) was a Polish Baroque painter and engraver active in Amsterdam during the Dutch Golden Age. Krzysztof was born in Szczecin. He and his brother Teodor Lubieniecki hailed from an Arian family. They learned to paint from Juriaan Stur in Hamburg. In 1667 they travelled to Amsterdam, where Krzysztof apprenticed with Adriaen Backer, and Teodor with Gerard de Lairesse. In 1682, Teodor moved to Hannover before eventually moving to Poland in 1706, where he died. Krzysztof remained in Amsterdam, where he painted portraits and genre pieces. He also collaborated on prints for Jacobus Houbraken, Daniel Willink, and Johannes Brandt (son of Gerard Brandt). He died in Amsterdam.
Dirk Valkenburg
(1675, Amsterdam - 1721, Amsterdam), was a Dutch Golden Age painter. According to the RKD he was a pupil of Michiel van Musscher, Herman van Vollenhove, and Jan Weenix. In 1698 he worked in Vienna for the Prince of Liechtenstein, and from 1706-1707 he travelled to Surinam to draw the native plants and birds for the wealthy city secretary of Amsterdam, Jonas Witsen, who owned a plantation there and whom he met through his teacher Musscher. He is known for exotic landscapes, paintings of birds, and fruit and flower still lifes.
